The file CHOICE.COM should be in your DOS directory. The file
MYC.BAT should be in your batch directory or could be in the
C:\MYC directory (if that dir is in the path).
The remaining files: Coldboot.com, warmboot.com, mini.bat, mini.sys,
myc.lst,myc.hlp, help.bat should be in the C:\MYC directory.
You may wish to copy your existing autoexec.bat and config.sys
files to C:\MYC\BEST.BAT and C:\MYC\BEST.SYS --- assuming that
current configuration is best. Use the (U)tility followed by (C)opy option.
Any other sets of configuration files should be copied to the
appropriate file pairs such as -- clang.bat & Clang.sys OR Ram.BAT & Ram.SYS.
The last option on the menus will work after other configurations
such as (B)est and (M)ini have been used and then the (L)ast option is
selected. The last option would be handiest if used when there
are routine switches between two alternating configurations.
If MYC.BAT is called without any command line parameter from a version
of AUTOEXEC.BAT, and no keys are pressed, it will default to the menu--
and then in 5 or 10 seconds WILL EXIT WITHOUT changing the configuration.
MYC.BAT will save some versions of your autoexec.bat and config.sys files,
but cannot save you from every possible screwup. The Dir option is in the
menu for a reason and most options allow graceful exit. USE THESE FILES AT
YOUR OWN RISK. AUTHOR does NOT accept any responsibility for real or
imagined losses of any kind--direct or indirect. You must have CHOICE.COM
from DOS 6 to make choice options work. Some DIR commands use parameters
which may only work with DOS 6 version of DIR command. The file editing
options built into the (U)tility options are set up to use DOS 5 or 6 EDIT.
You may wish to change these edit lines to use your favorite ASCII editor.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The COLDBOOT.COM, WARMBOOT.COM etc. are shareware from PCMAGAZINE. Other
versions of similar files are available from several sources.
Nothing very profound is in the MYC.BAT file, but I hope you find it
useful. Note the use of errorlevel tests that increase rather than decrease
for the setting of environmental variables--this is a bit counter-intuitive,
but does eliminate need for several labels and shortens the batch file.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Again, so there is no excuse for missing this--USE THESE FILES ONLY AT YOUR
OWN RISK-- AND SINCE MYC.BAT is an EASILY EDITED file, CHECK IT OVER YOURSELF
SO YOU KNOW THAT IT HAS NOT BEEN RE-EDITED TO BE DESTRUCTIVE.
